Southsea bin collections over Christmas

With Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day being at weekends this year, there will be no changes to the usual recycling, rubbish or food waste collections for Southsea residents.

If you miss your collection, you can take your rubbish and recycling to the household waste recycling centre at Port Solent.  It’s open seven days a week, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, but before you visit you need to book a time slot online at: www.portsmouth.gov.uk/hwrc

How to dispose of your Christmas tree

After the festive season you can take your real Christmas tree either to Port Solent, if you have booked, or to the garden centre at Avenue De Caen, near the seaward end of Palmerston Road. Trees under six feet tall can be put out with your rubbish for two weeks after Christmas.

Healthcare waste collections will happen as usual but garden waste collections will be suspended between December 17 and January 3, while bulky waste collections will stop between December 22 and January 11.

Don’t forget to recycle as much as you can, including small electrical items, such as hairdryers and kettles, which can be placed on top of your recycling bin to be taken away.
