The seafront path around Southsea Castle will be closed to walkers for almost all of 2022 to allow for works to construct the next stage of the £100m coastal sea defence scheme.
From January to November, the promenade, between the Blue Reef Aquarium and the Pyramids, will be out of bounds when heavy machinery moves eastwards as the project’s current focus on new protection for Old Portsmouth is completed.

The road and landward side of Southsea Castle, around the D-Day Museum and Castle Field, will remain accessible while work continues to replace the existing seafront defences with a split-level promenade and more substantial defences to prevent flooding in Southsea.
For updates of the scheme, which eventually will extend to Eastney, visitors can call at the site office in Pier Road or see the website at: https://southseacoastalscheme.org.uk/
