Welcome to Portsmouth South Conservatives.

Palmerston Road South changes may become permanent

Closure of the southern part of Palmerston Road to through traffic, introduced under temporary Covid-19 regulations in 2020, may become permanent.

Portsmouth City Council has published a public notice of its intention to keep the restrictions between Osborne Road and Auckland Road East, which forbid vehicles driving through, except bicycles, and only allow vehicles for loading between 4am and 11am.

The council also proposes the remaining section of Palmerston Road, from Auckland Road West to Clarence Parade, will be limited to one-way soutbound traffic.

An official statement of reasons for the changes said it is to restrict traffic movement and increase space for social distancing, walking and cycling, and making better use of the available highway area for pedestrian and cyclist use for the described section of Palmerston Road.

Before a final decision is made, anyone wanting to object to the proposals can send an email with their reasons to: [email protected]

Objections must be received by the council by February 2, 2022. Letters can also be accepted if sent to: Daniel Selby, Parking Team, Civic Offices, Portsmouth City Council PO1 2NE
